At week 23 baby was the size of a bunch of grapes and just over a foot long. By week 24 baby is the size of an eggplant and is now about 13 inches and weighs about 1.5 pounds! His lungs are developing significantly now and in week 24 my app told me that he passed his first viability milestone! While his chances of survival outside the womb are still very low, there IS a chance that he COULD survive if I were to go into preterm labour. After suffering from my miscarriage, this milestone was music to my ears and gave me so much relief!
How I’ve been feeling/Symptoms
These past two weeks I’ve been feeling a lot better and I’m starting to enjoy pregnancy a lot more! I am getting used to my belly and how to maneuver around without making myself uncomfortable.
My sciatica pain came back full force in week 24, but has now subsided a little bit. It hit me pretty hard for a few days though, so I just tried to take it as easy as possible, and luckily the pain has subsided for now.
I am still having upper back pain in the right shoulder area and also in my mid back. It’s a strange sensation – like pins and needles but there is also pain. My doctor said it is also most likely to do with nerves being pushed on by my growing uterus.
My energy levels have been pretty good, other than a few off days where I am extra tired.
I also went for my glucose tolerance test in week 24 and my numbers came back just below the normal level, which was a relief!
Cravings and Food Aversions
FRUIT. All day. Every. Day. Seriously, haha, it’s all I want. Well that, and mini eggs! ‘Tis the season! Lol
What I’m loving right now
I ordered some basic maternity tees from Old Navy, and I am in love with them! They fit perfectly, and show off my growing bump beautifully! They are super soft and comfy and I wish I would have ordered them sooner!
What I’m missing
Nothing really comes to mind these past couple weeks.
At the beginning of week 24, I weighed myself at 133 pounds. A total of 10 pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight.
I’m feeling great! Our baby boys kicks are getting stronger and stronger and I love that he lets me know he is in there!
Honestly, the ‘viability’ milestone has really put me on a high. I feel so much calmer now that I am this far along in my pregnancy. I am counting down the weeks (16 more to go) until I can kiss our sweet baby boys cheeks all day long!
