Milk Supply Boosting Breakfast Oatmeal

When I first had William, I ate 4 dozen of the lactation cookies I shared in my ‘Meal Prepping Before Baby‘ blog post in the first week postpartum. Then I made more and ate those pretty quickly, too! My milk supply seems as if it’s pretty good so far but I’ve had trouble finding the time to make more cookies.

Instead, I’ve been throwing together a bowl of oatmeal most mornings that tastes just like a chocolate chip cookie! It has all of the galactagogues (lactation increasing substances) that the cookies have: rolled oats, ground flaxseed and brewers yeast. I also add in hemp hearts which have loads of Omega 3’s and protein as well as chia seeds which are high in protein, fiber and antioxidants.

Ingredients

2/3 cup rolled oats
3 tbsp. hemp hearts
1 tbsp. chia seeds
2 tsp. ground flaxseed
1 tsp. brewer’s yeast
3 tbsp. coconut sugar (more or less to taste – I like my oatmeal pretty sweet)
peanut butter
chocolate chips

Directions

Mix the first 6 ingredients together in a bowl. Be sure to mix well as brewers yeast has a really awful taste if you get a mouthful. Add about a cup of water and microwave on high for 2 minutes.

Add a dollop of peanut butter and a handful of chocolate chips and stir together until mixed.

Enjoy with coffee or tea of your choice and reap all the milk supply benefits!
