What’s In My Hospital Bag + Printable Packing List

Hey guys! I’m excited to share with you what I have included in our hospital bags for when baby decides to make his debut! Please let me know if you think of anything that I missed or if you think I am packing things that I will not need!

I ordered these adorable matching monogrammed duffel bags from Thirty One gifts for mine and my husband’s bags and I am SO excited about them! My husbands aunt got us the monogrammed bag that I am using for baby!

I am also packing a diaper bag for baby just in case, but his ‘hospital bag’ should have everything he will need. The diaper bag will be left in the car in case we need it!

Here is a printable packing list if you are pregnant and also starting to think about hospital bags: BABY Hospital Bag Packing Lists

My Hospital Bag

Nighttime heavy flow pads
Comfortable (big) cotton panties
Nursing bra
Nursing pads (disposable)
Personal items (toothbrush, toothpaste, face wipes, face wash, moisturizer, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion)
Makeup, minimal (tinted moisturizer, mascara, brow pencil)
Hair elastics, bobby pins, hair clip
Hair brush
Chapstick (Blistex)
Mints
Housecoat
Comfortable leggings/pants (in case of C-section)
Nursing tank
Basic tees
Cute top for photos
Sweater
Socks
Slippers
Water bottle
Phone charger
Pillow
Copy of hospital paperwork (one copy given to OB already)
Carseat Instruction Manual (because I’m sure we will be nervous enough as it is, I figure you can never be too prepared!)
Gifts for nurses (approx. 6)

I am a bit of an overpacker, but I feel as though I will need most of these things. I am still waiting on the nursing bras that I ordered off Amazon but they should *fingers crossed* be coming by the beginning of June! I might go buy another one and keep the tags on it, just in case!

As for the nurses gifts, I have yet to decide what I am going to bring. I may end up just getting a friend of mine to bring a food gift basket for them since she so graciously offered to do so!

Brent’s Hospital Bag

Change of clothes (boxers, sweat pants for sleeping, jeans, tee, sweater)
Nice shirt for photos
Lots of snacks (granola bars, nuts, gum, mints)
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant)
Tylenol
Vicks
Pillow & Blanket

You’re probably wondering why I have ‘Vicks’ on the list. This is probably TMI (but hey, pretty much all of pregnancy is TMI) but a friend told us to pack Vicks and have hubby put it under his nose as we get close to delivery in case of any stinky bodily fluids… GROSS, I know, but totally natural. I thought this was a great tip, so I’m definitely going to pack it for him!

I also just packed him a light blanket for sleeping, but if the hospital is cold, I have a spare sleeping bag in the trunk of my car that he can use!

Baby’s Hospital Bag

Carseat (base installed in car)
Diapers (8 newborn, 8 size 1 – depending on baby size)
Vaseline
Plain onesies (1 newborn, 1 0-3 month)
Take home outfit (newborn and 0-3 months)
Socks
Wipes
Cozy blanket
Swaddle blanket
Wubanub, pacifier
Ready to feed formula (in case of breastfeeding trouble)

After looking at the difference in size between the newborn and size 1 diapers, I decided to just include the newborn size in his hospital bag and I have some size 1 diapers in the car, just in case.

Baby’s Diaper Bag (we are leaving this in the car as a ‘just in case’)

Plain onesies (2 newborn, 2 0-3 month – in case of leaks)
Diapers (newborn and size 1)
Wipes
Bum cream
Vaseline
Disposable diaper bags
Swaddle blanket
Burp cloths
Socks
Pacifier
Hand sanitizer
Nail clippers
Nasal aspirator/Nose Freida

I left a few things out of the diaper bag for now. I left out bum cream, because I figured he probably won’t have a diaper rash immediately after birth, and I also left out Vaseline since I included it in his hospital bag. The last thing I left out is the Nose Freida, assuming the hospital will have some sort of nasal aspirator for us to use.

I’ve been wanting to start a YouTube channel for a long time now, and I finally decided that a ‘What’s In My Hospital Bag’ video would be a good place to start! Click the link below if you want to see the video and I would love it if you would subscribe so you can follow our journey to becoming parents! I plan to post lifestyle videos like: Day In The Life, What I Eat In a Day, Morning & Night Routines, Baby related routine videos (once we get into a routine, of course), Product Reviews, etc. I’d also love to hear what you would like to see!

Thanks so much for reading!

  1. Love, love, love!
Love the idea of gifts for the nurses (we also did this and brought 6) – they appreciate it so much!
We also left the diaper bag in the car along with the carseat (Jordan went and grabbed the car seat just before we were discharged). I ended up needing the extra diapers as we stayed so long due to C-Section.
Also, about the Vaseline, someone gave us this tip and it really helped. Every bum change (from the very first diaper) put lots of Vaseline on his little bum. When he finally makes his first poop, it will help with clean up. That first poop is like tar – super thick and gross… I luckily didn’t have to change it as I was bedridden with the catheter still but Jordan said the Vaseline helped less poopy stick to her little bum.
So excited for you! Can’t wait to watch your Youtube channel in addition to reading your blog!

    1. Thank you, love! Literally the reason I packed the Vaseline is because I remember Jordan telling me that exact thing! I’ll have to remind Brent about it just in case he is doing the diaper changes! =) xoxox thanks for all of your support!!
